Vaccinations Recommended as Flu Season Hits

The flu season has officially begun in Canada, and officials are advising citizens to go out and get their Canadian drug vaccinations to prevent infection. The ‘flu can be a serious illness for many, with symptoms going beyond the normal cough, headache, sore throat and stuffy nose to fever and causing problems for those with underlying illnesses, particularly those with heart or lung conditions, and the Eastern Ontario Health Unit recommends people hurry up and get their Canada drug vaccine as soon as possible.

“We’ve had one case of documented influenza A virus in Prescott and Russell,” says their medical officer of health, Dr Paul Roumeliotis, adding that while there hadn’t been a flu outbreak yet, there has already been outbreaks of diarrhea and vomiting in daycare centers, schools and nursing homes.

Cases of the ‘flu seem to be rising in Canada, with thirty eight thousand, nine hundred and eighty cases reported between the thirtieth of August 2009 and the twenty seventh of March last year, according to statistics from the Public Health Agency of Canada. Canada drug vaccines are available via the health unit and other physicians, and DrRoumeliotis says being given the Canadian drug vaccine is still the best way to prevent a bout of the ‘flu. “It is the beginning of the ‘flu season,” he says. “The best thing is to vaccinate.” Between twenty and twenty five thousand people got their shot last year, a number up on 2009, although Roumeliotis believes confusion caused by the H1N1 virus led many to mistakenly believe they did not get the normal flu shot as well.
