People who are prone to food and drug allergies can purchase cheap epinephrine pens and antihistamines from a Canadian internet pharmacy. While these patients are usually cognizant about direct contact with their triggers, there have been cases in which people had severe reactions after having intimate contact with a non-allergic individual who consumed a trigger. However, the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) offers tips on how to prevent such events.
When it comes to food sensitivities, non-allergic partners should brush their teeth after consuming the trigger, rinse their mouth and avoid eating the food again between 16 and 24 hours before kissing an allergic loved one, the ACAAI said. While this may not prevent all cases of "kissing" allergies, it does minimize the risk.
In cases where an individual becomes allergic to his or her partner's semen, couples should be prepared with condoms and antihistamines, which could alleviate mild reactions.
Patients may also want to consider consulting with an allergist about the possibility of undergoing desensitization therapy.
"There may be more who are suffering from this than we know because people may be embarrassed to bring it up," said allergist Sami Bahna, MD. "But allergists can help determine what's causing the allergy and find the right treatment. No one has to suffer."
According to the ACAAI, up to 3 percent of American adults have food allergies.
