Anxiety and depression symptoms linked to lower life expectancy

New research published in the British Medical Journal suggests that people who have psychiatric problems, such as anxiety and depression, tend to have a lower life expectancy that individuals who do not have these diseases.

New research published in the British Medical Journal suggests that people who have psychiatric problems, such as anxiety and depression, tend to have a lower life expectancy that individuals who do not have these diseases. The study highlights the importance of a prescription to buy Canadian Effexor.

In the past, smaller studies proved ineffective at exploring the relationship between psychiatric health and life expectancy. In order to investigate further, a team of scientists from University College London reviewed eight years' worth of medical data, collected from 68,000 adults aged 35 and older.

Results showed that even mild symptoms of anxiety and depression significantly raised the likelihood of death from conditions such as heart disease.

"These associations also remained after we did our best to take into account other factors such as weight, exercise, smoking, alcohol consumption and diabetes. Therefore this increased mortality is not simply due to people with higher levels of psychological distress having poorer health behaviors," said researcher David Batty.

In the U.S., the 12-month prevalence of anxiety among adults is just over 18 percent, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. For major depressive disorder, that figure is nearly 7 percent.
