Osteoarthritis is an often frustrating and debilitating condition for which many Americans buy Euflexxa. According to a study published in the journal Arthritis Research and Therapy, individuals who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis have a greater risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, compared to people in the general population.
More than 400 people with the disease were followed over a period of five years, during which researchers monitored the progression of the illness by observing chemical markers of inflammation. The scientists also watched for major risk factors of heart disease, such as cholesterol levels, diabetes, blood pressure and weight.
At the end of the study period, approximately 97 percent of the subjects had been treated with medications called disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), which helped reduce the chemical markers of inflammation. According to the research team, this treatment can help lower arthritic patients' risk of having cardiovascular illness.
"Inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis increases patients risk of heart disease and other cardiovascular events," said lead author Wallberg Johnson of the University Hospital, Umea. "However, it is possible to reduce this risk in a two-pronged attack by treating both the inflammation and traditional risk factors for heart disease."
