Smart shoppers understand that seeking out less expensive prescription medications from such sources as a Canadian online pharmacy is a great way to save money. Recently, the U.S. House of Representatives introduced a bipartisan legislation that aims to foster healthy competition among pharmacies in order to allow consumers to benefit in terms of choice, quality and value.
The Quality Healthcare Coalition Act of 2011 has met with approval from the National Community Pharmacists Association, due to its potential to extend the positive effects of a more competitive pharmacy marketplace to millions of Americans.
The bill was championed by U.S. Representatives John Conyers (D-Michigan), Ron Paul (R-Texas), Jeff Miller (R-Florida) and Donna Edwards (D-Maryland).
"In today's healthcare system, every year, we hear of patients being asked to pay more for their prescription benefit insurance and accept less, [leading to] fewer benefits," said Douglas Hoey, executive vice president and CEO of the National Community Pharmacists Association. "In pharmacy, as with any business, more robust competition results in greater benefits for consumers."
He urged greater support of this bill in order to allow pharmacies to play a more active role in helping patients reap the rewards of increased competition.
