Prescription medications can be expensive in the U.S., and many smart shoppers are turning to Canadian online pharmacies to help them afford the products they need. Finding reasonable discounts on drugs can help them relieve the stress on their wallets, while alleviating pain and discomfort.
Recently, scientists from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland reported that unexplained signs of pain, weakness and dizziness occur in many people. Known as functional or psychogenic symptoms, these uncomfortable characteristics may be assuaged with the help of cognitive behavioral therapy. This type of treatment helps improve patients' physical symptoms and emotional state in a way that helps them better understand and respond to their situation.
The researchers developed a self-help workbook for 62 participants, all of whom were asked to look at the book with a nurse over a period of three months. At the end of the study period, these individuals reported improvements in their overall health, compared to those who received normal medical care.
"This study suggests that cognitive behavioral therapy-based guided self-help may be a new and potentially useful first step in improving the management of these challenging symptoms," the researchers said.
