Combining omega-3 fatty acids with blood-thinning drugs may reduce risk of heart attack

Individuals who are at risk for experiencing a heart attack can buy Plavix as a precaution and save money when they purchase from a Canadian online pharmacy. A paper published in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology: Journal of the American Heart Association reports that omega-3 fatty acids can have the same benefit when combined with two blood-thinning drugs.
Foods that are rich in omega-3 - such as salmon and other oily fish - have been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular problems among patients who have coronary artery disease. Lead author Grzegorz Gajos and his team administered the pill form of this nutrient to study subjects, who were also encouraged to increase their consumption of fish.
They found that the positive impact of omega-3 fatty acids increased when administered with aspirin and clopidogrel.
"Our study suggests that combined moderate anti-thrombotic and anti-platelet actions of omega-3, when added to those of other treatments, may improve outcomes for coronary artery disease patients," Gajos said.
He added that the team is planning a larger follow-up study to confirm these findings and include patient outcomes.
