"While the findings of this very preliminary study are interesting and should be taken seriously, we are strongly urging our patients to continue taking antidepressants as prescribed," said Richard Taite, CEO of Cliffside Malibu. "The immediate, serious risks to our patients, were they to abruptly half the use of antidepressants, far outweigh potential adverse health effects."
He added that the symptoms of depression are often acute and sometimes life-threatening, and that taking medication can be crucial to a patient's well-being.
