Individuals who buy cheap medication from Canada can find significant discounts on the medications prescribed by their doctors. According to a recent study published in the journal Medical Decision Making, physicians are more likely to recommend a particular type of treatment if it promotes the patient's longevity, rather than just improve his or her quality of life.
Researchers conducted a survey among oncologists to determine the importance that these providers place on quantity compared to quality of life when making decisions about chemotherapy.
"The costs of cancer drugs have increased markedly over the years," the authors wrote in their study. "However, interpreting the cost effectiveness literature and translating it into clinical discussions can be difficult."
According to the paper, an estimated 71.8 percent of respondents said that they would prioritize life-prolonging treatments over ones that only enhanced comfort.
They concluded that physicians who develop close relationships with their patients tend to take every measure to save those individuals' lives, due to their shared bond. According to the authors, this characteristic is known as the Rule of Rescue.
