Canadian internet pharmacies carry a wealth of products to help treat numerous medical conditions and the discounts that they offer can help customers save significant amounts of money. Those who are looking for items to help them quit smoking may find them online. Recently, scientists at the Penn State College of Medicine reported that electronic cigarettes may be a useful long-term alternative for smokers, but that these individuals should continue to consider more traditional cessation methods.
Lead researcher Jonathan Foulds, a professor of public health sciences and psychiatry, explained that minimal alterations can go a long way when it comes to enabling cigarette users to avoid the health risks associated with their habit.
He and his team conducted a study among 104 long-term electronic cigarette users, an estimated 78 percent of whom had completely substituted tobacco with this product.
"These products initially seemed to be something of a gimmick and likely to be banned by the FDA. They are continuing to be popular and at least some smokers appear to find them helpful," Foulds said. "However, we just don't have enough information on their long-term safety and effectiveness for clinicians to recommend them. Until that research has been carried out, I would advise smokers to use proven treatments."
