Men who have prostate cancer may find significant discounts on the products they need by purchasing cheap medication from Canada. New remedies are being developed all the time, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved a drug called abiraterone acetate that may help extend the lives of patients who have the most advanced form of the disease.
Lead author Thomas W. Flaig from the University of Colorado Hospital's Tony Grampsas Urologic Oncology Clinic and his team published their findings in the New England Journal of Medicine.
They reported that the phase III clinical trial of the drug, which was conducted among 1,195 participants, proved its effectiveness and safety.
"Abiraterone acetate is a new, life-extending pill for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer," Flaig said. "Unlike the traditional chemotherapy drugs used in these situations, abiraterone is generally very well tolerated."
He added that the survival benefit that the team observed was especially notable, since it was found in even the most advanced cases of prostate cancer.
