Individuals who have osteoarthritis can buy Canadian Celebrex to relieve joint pain and support both their mobility and independence. Scientists are looking for new ways to help osteoarthritis patients, and a recent study suggests that omega-3 fatty acids may be one potential approach.
Omega-3 fatty acids, which are found in flax oil and some types of fish, have been linked to benefits to the cardiovascular system. Researchers at the University of Bristol in the UK wanted to see if these nutrients had any effects on osteoarthritis.
The team of scientists experimented on guinea pigs, which are naturally prone to developing osteoarthritis and serve as good models of the disease. In their study, subjects that were fed a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids were half as likely to develop develop osteoarthritis than animals fed a normal diet. Those that were supplemented with the nutrient had healthier cartilage and lost fewer shock-absorbing molecules in their joints.
Further research is needed to assess the effects of omega-3 in guinea pigs that already have osteoarthritis, and whether these effects can be replicated in humans.
In the U.S., there are an estimated 27 million Americans aged 25 years or older who have osteoarthritis. That number is expected to reach 67 million by the year 2030, according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, a division of the National Institutes of Health.
