While a prescription to buy Canadian Actos can help patients with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar, these individuals still need to be cognizant of their diet. Researchers from Ohio State University concluded that people who set concrete goals for how much they would eat in a day were more likely to succeed in improving their diet.
The team of scientists conducted a trial with 35 individuals with type 2 diabetes. Subjects were assigned a diet in which they had either six or eight daily servings of lower glycemic index foods - such as vegetables, whole grains and fruit - for eight weeks. Past studies linked these foods to better measurements of blood sugar control and body mass index.
Individuals from both groups successfully increased their consumption of items with a lower glycemic index. However, not everyone reached their assigned target.
"What we found is that those who felt more committed to the goal felt the goal was less difficult. And those who had a higher level of self-efficacy felt that the goal was less difficult, which makes sense because that means they felt more confident in their ability to meet that goal," said researcher Carla Miller.
Goal-oriented treatments should be individualized, with patients starting out with moderately difficult targets that can be achieved in small successive steps, Miller added.
The research was published in the journal Patient Education and Counseling.
