There are several well-established medications on the market that can help patients with type 2 diabetes manage their symptoms. Those who buy Actos may be able to achieve better control of their blood sugar levels. Another injectable medication called liraglutide has been shown to have the same benefits, and recently, a study from the University of Buffalo revealed that it could also help people with type 1 diabetes.
Lead author Paresh Dandona and his colleagues published their findings in the European Journal of Endocrinology, and also presented the research at the annual meeting of the Endocrine Society in Boston.
They evaluated a total of 14 patients who had been given liraglutide - also known as Victoza - for a period of six months. When the study was complete, all of the participants experienced lower body weight, a reduction in appetite and better glucose control.
"The addition of liraglutide to insulin therapy in these well-controlled type 1 diabetics resulted in a significant and rapid reduction in glycemic excursions and, as a consequence, a rapid reduction in the amount of insulin they needed to take," Dandona explained.
