More physicians prescribe generic medications, CVS Caremark study reveals
Whether individuals prefer to buy generic or brand name medications, purchasing from a Canadian online pharmacy may be their best bet when it comes to saving money.
Whether individuals prefer to buy generic or brand name medications, purchasing from a Canadian online pharmacy may be their best bet when it comes to saving money. According to a recent report from CVS Caremark, more physicians prescribed and more patients were willing to use generic drugs in 2010.
However, CVS Caremark executive vice president Troyen A. Brennan said that there is a continuing increase in the use of expensive specialty drugs. The prevalence of chronic diseases - such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular illnesses - is also still rising.
These issues "call for innovative healthcare solutions such as an integrated pharmacy home to help patients deal with complex therapy regimens and stay adherent," Brennan said. "Developing a pharmacy home was one of the recommendations raised by our recent research conducted with Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital."
He added that the findings of the report emphasize a need to devise better ways in which to serve chronically ill patients. However, the results are also promising and reveal that the industry is making some headway in the fight against these diseases.
Purchasing generic medications from a Canadian online pharmacy can be a cost-effective alternative to more expensive brand name drugs.
