Men who have prostate cancer can find great discounts on the medications they need when they purchase through a Canadian internet pharmacy. Recently, an article published in the New England Journal of Medicine revealed that a treatment called ZYTIGA can improve the chance of survival among patients who have metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.
The phase III clinical study was sponsored by Ortho Biotech Oncology Research and Development. Researchers found that combining ZYTIGA with prednisone resulted in a 35.4 percent reduction in the risk of death among these individuals.
"Given that men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer have few options, we are pleased with the results of this rigorous study, which show that [the treatment] may extend survival in these patients," said lead author Johann S. de Bono.
He added that the data indicates that ZYTIGA has a strong potential to meet a significantly unmet need for men who have this disease.
The drug was approved in April for the treatment of prostate cancer patients who had received prior chemotherapy containing docetaxel.
