Ordering from a Canadian internet pharmacy may save money and improve medication adherence

Many Americans who are looking for significant discounts on prescription medications turn to Canadian internet pharmacies. According to the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA), buying drugs for home delivery makes the process more convenient and affordable for consumers.
The organization recently criticized the inclusion of a legislative proposal in the New York State Senate's budget that would eliminate lower cost home delivery options for chronically ill patients.
"Everyone knows that mail-service pharmacies make prescriptions more affordable for consumers, employers and unions," said Mark Merritt, president and CEO of the PCMA. "This proposal would enrich independent drugstores at the expense of patients and put New York in an even deeper budgetary hole than it is already in."
Many studies have demonstrated the positive impact of home-delivered prescription medications on the patients' health and medication adherence. For example, the American Journal of Managed Care found that consumers who received their drugs through a mail-service pharmacy were more likely to take them as prescribed by doctors, compared to people who bought the medicine at a pharmacy.
Purchasing medication from a Canadian internet pharmacy may not only save patients money, but could help improve their health outcomes.
