Polypill may provide benefits of multiple medications

Heart health is a major concern for many Americans, and those who buy Lipitor may be improving their cholesterol levels and reducing their risk of experiencing a heart attack. Now, a new drug has been developed that could prevent the development of cardiovascular disease in these patients.
A new study from the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center reports that the pill may contain the benefits of multiple medications - such as drugs for cholesterol, blood pressure and better blood flow - in one dose.
"The idea behind the polypill is that it offers a simpler way to give medications to people so that they will have better adherence to their pills," said lead investigator Elsayed Z. Soliman. "It's not always easy for people to consistently take multiple pills, even if they are needed to treat a serious condition, like cardiovascular disease."
The research team is focusing on bringing the polypill to patients who reside in developing countries, where the cost of medicine to improve heart health is the highest.
According to the scientists, the pill is still undergoing trials to determine its efficiency. In the meantime, many doctors recommend that patients buy Lipitor to improve their cholesterol profile and keep their hearts healthy.
