Many smart shoppers know that purchasing medication from a Canadian online pharmacy is a great way to save money. Many prescription drugs in the U.S. are expensive, which can add unnecessary stress to individuals who may already be anxious about their illnesses. However, buying cheap medication from Canada can save them money and time, as well as improve their medication adherence.
This was the finding of a recent study conducted by Kaiser Permanente Northern California. Lead investigator Julie Schmittdiel and her team published their results in the current online issue of the Journal of General Internal Medicine.
According to the researchers, individuals who ordered their statin prescriptions from a mail-order pharmacy achieved better control of their blood cholesterol during the first 15 months after beginning therapy, compared to those who went to a brick-and-mortar pharmacy for their drugs.
About 85 percent of those who ordered drugs online reached their target cholesterol levels, compared to only 74.2 percent of those who bought their medicine from a local pharmacy.
"These findings provide new evidence that mail-order pharmacy use may be associated with improved care and outcomes for patients for risk factors with cardiovascular disease," Schmittdiel said.
