Buying cheap medication from Canada can help patients with chronic conditions stay healthy and save money at the same time. Finding significant discounts on the products they need may improve their medication adherence, which is a common problem among elderly Americans partly due to the high cost of drugs in the U.S.
According to researchers from Texas State University, San Marcos, the University of California, Riverside and La Sierra University, doctors may be able to help their patients better stick to a prescribed medication schedule by using a technique called the Information-Motivation-Strategy (IMS) Model.
This method, which appears in the journal Health Psychology Review, was created after the researchers analyzed over 100 large-scale studies and meta-analyses conducted between 1948 and 2009. Through this model, doctors are encouraged to communicate information in an effective, easy-to-understand manner to patients, help them believe in the efficacy of the treatment and overcome obstacles such as high costs and mental health issues.
"When regimens are more complex and intrusive, patients are more prone to forget what they are supposed to do and are less likely to be able to carry out the directives that they do recall," the authors wrote. "Patients carry out prescribed regimens less effectively when they view their health problems as less severe."
