Researchers test effectiveness of new treatment for heart attack patients

Many doctors recommend that patients buy Plavix to reduce their risk of experiencing a stroke or a heart attack. Maintaining good cardiovascular health becomes even more a priority when individuals begin to age. In light of this fact, NeuroVive Pharmaceutical and Hospices Civils de Lyon announced that a new drug called CicloMulsion, which aims to protect cardiac tissue, will be entering the first phase of clinical testing.
The study will be conducted among 1,000 patients at a total of 40 centers throughout France and other sites in Europe. Researchers plan to assess the drug's effectiveness at preventing substantial damage to the heart muscle in individuals who have experienced myocardial infarction.
"Patients [who have a heart attack] often undergo emergency percutaneous coronary intervention in which a catheter passed through the major blood vessels restores blood flow to blocked coronary arteries," said researcher Michel Ovize. "Even after blood flow is restored, damage to the heart muscle continues to progress."
He added that timely therapeutic interventions may be able to prevent this from happening, and that CicloMulsion may address a critical need to protect cardiac tissue and improve patient outcomes.
