Scientists gather at Era of Hope conference to discuss novel treatments for breast cancer

Many women with breast cancer buy Tamoxifen to slow the progression of the disease, the prevalence of which is growing by the day. Statistics reveal that women have at least a 12 percent risk of developing the illness over the course of their lifetime, prompting scientists to come up with novel approaches to tackle this devastating condition.
Existing treatments do not meet the needs of every patient. Because of this, different methods and techniques are needed in order to save lives and enhance comfort for women with the disease.
Researchers are exploring the use of reconstituted good cholesterol - or HDL - as a model of drug delivery that utilizes peptides to target tumors.
"The Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program is proud to support the investment into early and new science that can potentially improve and enhance the lives of breast cancer patients," said Melissa Kaime, director of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs.
She said that a conference such as the Era of Hope meeting, which will be held this week, allows investigators to share and discuss their findings with others. This could make a significant impact on the research behind breast cancer therapy.
