Individuals who struggle with high blood pressure may find the medications they need at significantly reduced prices when they purchase through a Canadian internet pharmacy. In addition to adhering to their medication regimens, drinking more milk and soy protein products may also help address hypertension. This was the recent focus of a study that appears in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association.
Lead investigator Jiang He reported that partially replacing refined carbohydrates with food and drink that is high in soy or milk protein can bring blood pressure down to normal levels. Study participants who took a milk protein supplement had as much as a 2.3 mm Hg lower systolic blood pressure, compared to those who took a refined carbohydrate supplement.
All of the subjects were over the age of 22 and had a systolic blood pressure ranging from 120 to 159 mm Hg at the beginning of the study period.
"Some previous observational research on eating carbohydrates inconsistently suggested that a high carbohydrate diet might help reduce blood pressure," He said. "In contrast, our clinical trial directly compares soy protein with milk protein on blood pressure, and shows that they both lower blood pressure better than carbohydrates."
