Among those who have prostate cancer, testosterone therapy has long been proposed as a viable treatment, but the topic is still under debate as some studies have suggested that it could promote the progression of the disease.
However, according to a paper published in the Journal of Urology, the issue should be revisited. Researchers from Men's Health Boston conducted a study involving 13 testosterone-deficient males who had untreated prostate cancer. All of the participants underwent testosterone therapy over a period of three years.
Among these patients, the mean testosterone concentration increased as expected, but there was no change in the level of prostate-specific antigens or prostate volume.
"The results suggest a reevaluation of the long-standing prohibition against offering testosterone therapy to men with prostate cancer," said researcher Abraham Morgentaler. "Clearly, the traditional belief that higher testosterone necessarily leads to rapid prostate cancer growth is incorrect."
As more research is conducted on the issue, men who notice any changes in their prostate health may turn to established treatments to help manage their condition. Acquiring cheap medication from Canada may help them save money on the products that they need.
