Two molecule inhibitors may block protein associated with osteosarcoma

Patients who have osteoarthritis may alleviate their symptoms when they buy Celebrex, which they can acquire at significantly discounted prices from a Canadian internet pharmacy. New treatments for bone diseases are constantly emerging, and a study published in the journal Investigational New Drugs suggests that two small molecule inhibitors may effectively block the STAT3 protein, which is linked to osteosarcoma.

Individuals who have this malignant bone tumor commonly undergo a combination of toxic chemotherapy and aggressive surgical resection. Despite these options, however, patients generally have about a 60 percent five-year disease-free survival rate.

"The outcome for patients with advanced or metastatic osteosarcoma continues to be dismal, emphasizing the need for new therapies," said lead author Jaiyuh Lin from Nationwide Children's Hospital. "Directly targeting STAT3 signaling represents a potential therapeutic approach to treating this type of cancer."

The two compounds, LLL12 and FLLL23, may represent a safer, non-toxic method of preventing the progression of osteosarcoma, the researchers said. However, additional studies are needed before they can confirm that the molecule inhibitors are indeed a viable treatment for the illness.
